**Advanced Math Courses **

We expanded our math course options in Grades 7-8 to increase opportunities for students. We added one accelerated course to Grade 7 Pre-Algebra and one Grade 8 Accelerated Algebra plus one Grade 8 Honors Algebra. These courses are a direct response to student success and achievement along with parent feedback that we’ve received in the first few years of our middle level program.

**StMCS 7 ^{th} and 8^{th} Grade Mathematics Course Descriptions**

**7**

^{th}Grade Pre-Algebra

*Pre-Requisite:**Successful Completion of 6*

^{th}Grade MathThis course is guided by The Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Mathematics that were revised in 2007. The course includes the study of Number Sense with basic introduction to the following topics: Data Analysis, Probability, Statistics, Algebra, and Geometry.

^{th}Grade Accelerated Pre-Algebra

*Pre-Requisite:**Successful Completion of 6*

^{th}Grade Math with**Teacher Recommendation**This course is guided by The Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Mathematics that were revised in 2007. The course includes the study of Number Sense with an introduction to the following topics: Data Analysis, Probability, Statistics, Algebra, and Geometry. This course includes advanced study in select topics along with an accelerated pace. Students placed in this course have consistently held an above average grade in mathematics and are expected to be responsible and motivated to learn.

The course includes the study of linear equations in one and two variables, graphing linear functions, systems of equations, properties of exponents, and an introduction to coordinate geometry.

^{th}Grade Accelerated Algebra

*Pre-Requisite:**Successful Completion of Accelerated 7*

^{th}Grade Math or 7^{th}Grade Math with teacher recommendation.This course is guided by The Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Mathematics that were revised in 2007. The course includes the study of linear equations in one and two variables, graphing linear functions, systems of equations, properties of exponents, graphing exponential functions, properties of polynomials, solving and graphing quadratic functions, and an introduction to coordinate geometry. This course includes advanced study in select topics along with an accelerated pace. Students placed in this course have consistently held an above average grade in mathematics and are expected to be responsible and motivated to learn.

^{th}Grade Honors Algebra**Pre-Requisite:**

*Successful Completion of Accelerated 7*

**A placement in 7th grade does not guarantee the same type of placement in 8*^{th}grade. Students math ability, work ethic, and effort all play a part in placement each year.
